Designing for trust in AI: the small moves that change adoption
Adoption rarely fails on the model. It fails on the moment a user is asked to trust an answer they did not write.

Trust is not a feature you add at the end. It is a series of small concessions — citations, edit affordances, undo, transparent loading states — woven through the surface from the first frame.
When users feel in control of the AI, they use it more. When they feel performed at, they bounce.
Make the seams visible
Surface what the model knows and what it does not. A muted line under a generated answer saying "based on 4 sources, last updated 12 minutes ago" does more for adoption than a clever animation ever will.
Treat undo as a primary action
Every generative action needs a frictionless way back. Make undo as obvious as the generate button. Users explore more when retreat is cheap.
